Women's Soccer Trumps RIC, 3-1 in Regular Season Finale

PROVIDENCE, R.I.(10/30/13) – The Lasell College women's soccer team capped off their 2013 regular season with at 3-1victory against Rhode Island College on Wednesday evening. The Lasers improved to 14-3-1 for the year while RIC dropped to 5-10-1 in 2013.

Kayla Lynch (Dover, N.H.) scored a pair of goals for Lasell, her ninth and 10th of the season and Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) added another goal for Lasell pushing her season total to 28 goals.

Sophomore midfielder Camila Costa (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored the only goal for RIC in the loss.

RIC started well, putting some pressure on the Lasers in the first few minutes, forcing junior goalkeeper Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) to make three saves. The visitors swung the momentum in their favor, however, beginning with a shot by sophomore defender Sarah Jones (Duxbury, Mass.) that rang off the crossbar.


In the 24th minute, freshman midfielder Mackenzie Kingman (East Bridgewater, Mass.) had her shot attempt blocked, but Kayla Lynch controlled the rebound and fired home a shot that eluded RIC junior goalkeeper Audrey Maia (Norton, Mass.).

In the 31st minute, Kayla Lynch struck again after senior midfielder Melissa Leonard (North Brookfield, Mass.) drove a corner kick into the box that Lynch chipped past Maia.

The Anchorwomen cut their deficit in half with just over five minutes left in the first half after freshman midfielder Jaclyn Greenman (Waterford, Conn.) set up Costa with a beautiful crossing pass that Costa knocked in from the right post for her first goal of the year.

The Lasers went into halftime holding a 2-1 lead and a 10-6 advantage in shots.
Bridget Lynch struck in the 81st minute to give Lasell a two goal cushion when Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) set up the goal after dispossessing a RIC defender just outside the box.

The visitors once again outshot their hosts, 13-6, over the final 45 minutes to finish the game holding an 11-shot advantage, 23-12.

Maia made nine saves in a losing effort (5-10-1) while Pappalardo turned away nine shots to earn her 11th win.

Lasell will host Johnson and Wales University on Saturday November 2nd at 1:00 p.m. in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinals.
