Women's Soccer Streak Snapped with 3-1 Loss to Swarthmore

NEWTON, Mass. (10/19/13) – The Lasell College women's soccer team saw their nine match unbeaten streak snapped with a 3-1 non-conference defeat at the hands of Centennial Conferenc foe Swarthmore University. The Lasers dropped to 11-3-1 for the season while Swarthmore improved to 7-4-2 for the 2013 campaign.

Erin Smith (Gorham, Maine) scored the lone goal for the Lasers on an assist from Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) and Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) made seven saves in goal for Lasell.

Melissa Trofa finished with a goal and an assist for the Garnet, while Emma Sindelar and Caroline Khanna also scoring on the afternoon. Caela Long recorded a pair of saves in net for Swarthmore to claim the victory.

Trofa set up Sindelar with a neatly placed through ball in the fifth minute to give the visitors an early lead. Lasell answered right back, when Erin Smith slotted a feed from Munnelly to even the score at 1-1 in the 17th minute. Swarthmore reclaimed the lead when Khanna got her head on a corner kick to beat Pappalardo to make it 2-1 in favor of the visitors.

Trofa made it a two-goal advantage for Swarthmore with a strike in the 60th minute and the Lasers were unable to rally, falling 3-1.

Lasell will return to action on October 24th for a GNAC match at Rivier with kick-off slated for  7:00 p.m.
