Women's Soccer Nets 2-1 Victory over Johnson and Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (10/12/13) – The Lasell College women's soccer team remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 victory at Johnson and Wales University on Saturday October 12th. The Lasers pushed their record to 9-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the league, while Johnson and Wales slipped to 4-8-2 overall and 2-4-1 in conference matches.

Devon Day (Hartford, Vt.) recorded her fourth goal of the season for the Lasers, and Kayla Lynch (Dover, N.H.) tallied her fifth goal in the victory. Kayla Sypek (Westhampton, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Wildcats in the loss.

Day got the Lasers on the board in the 27th minute of action when her strike on a set piece found the back of the net, catching Johnson and Wales on their heels to send Lasell in front 1-0. Johnson and Wales outshot Lasell 10-2 in the opening first half which was largely played in the Lasers defensive half of the pitch, but the hosts were unable to find the range to even the score.

Johnson and Wales tied the match in the 63rd minute when Kayla Sypek chipped the Lasell keeper, Leah Pappalardo, after running onto a ball from Emily McLarnon (Wakefield, R.I.) to make the score 1-1.

Lasell answered moments later when Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) outran a Wildcats defender to a through ball and touched it toward the endline just inside the 18-yard box. Kayla Lynch found space at the top of the six and when a cross from her sister came to her feet she calmly fired home for a 2-1 lead and the eventual game-winning goal.

Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) made three saves in the victory for Lasell while Alexa Rose (Lancaster, Pa.) took the loss for JWU while recording four saves.

Lasell returns to action on Monday October 14th when they return home to Taylor Field for a 3:30 p.m. match-up with Norwich University. The Wildcats will visit Mount Ida on Monday October 14th for a GNAC clash at 12:00 p.m.
