Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Result to Endicott

NEWTON, Mass. (9/10/13) – The Lasell College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Gulls of Endicott College Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field. Paige Marinelli (Burlington, Conn.) scored the lone goal of the match helping the visitors to victory, pushing their record to 1-3-1 for the 2013 season. Lasell dropped their second straight contest, falling 3-2 for the season with the loss.

Lasell opened the contest controlling possession and creating a pair of chances during the first five minutes of the match. The Gulls fended off the early push from Lasell, and when they settled into the match, found a chance. Endicott gained possession, pushing forward through the midfield when Marinelli settled a ball outside the top of the 18 yard box on the right flank, took a pair of touches and curled a strike just under the cross bar to put Endicott in front, 1-0 in the eighth minute of the match.

Lasell continued to dictate the run of play throughout the opening half, outshooting the Gulls 6-2, but were unable to find an equalizer in the opening 45 minutes.

Early in the second half Endicott started to take control, handling the Lasers pressure and preventing Lasell from re-establishing a hold on the possession battle in the middle of the field. Endicott held the powerful Lasell offense in check, earning a shutout on the afternoon, and out-shooting Lasell 4-2 in the second half.

Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) made a pair of saves in the loss for Lasell, dropping to 3-2 on the year. Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) stopped three shots while posting a clean sheet for the first time this season and earning her first win of the season.

Lasell will host Anna Maria on Saturday September 14th at 2:30 p.m. at Grellier Field in the squad's Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener. Endicott will host Smith College on Saturday September 14th at 1:00 p.m.
