Women's Soccer Opens 2013 Campaign with 10-1 Defeat of SUNY Purchase

GLASSBORO, N.J. (08/30/13) - The Lasell College women's soccer team opened their 2013 schedule in fine form, defeating SUNY Purchase 10-1 in the Rowan University tournament first round. Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) scored five goals and added an assist, Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) scored a pair of goals, while Kayla Lynch (Dover, N.H.) and Erin Smith (Gorham, Maine) each added a score for the Lasers. Lasell moved to 1-0 on the season and will face Alfred University on Saturday August 31st at 4:30 p.m. while Purchase slid to 0-1 on the year and will take on Rowan University at 6:30 p.m.

Lasell opened the scoring 56 seconds into the contest when Bridget Lynch sprung the freshmen Cullen on a breakaway, which the youngster buried in the net for her first collegiate goal on her first shot attempt. Kayla Lynch made it 2-0 in favor of Lasell in the 17th minute when she drilled a shot past the Purchase keeper on a nice ball from freshmen Devon Day (Hartford, Vt.). 

The Lasers continued to find chances, as Bridget Lynch netted her first of the day on an unassisted goal in the 20th minute, and freshmen Erin Smith closed the first half scoring with a goal of her own from the right side of the box to make it 4-0 in the 38th minute.

Lasell continued to push the pace of play to open the second half, when Bridget Lynch scored on a feed from Jamie Osterberg (Monroe, Conn.) in the 50th minute, and then Cullen added her second goal of the match when she netted an unassisted tally in the 51st minute.

Cat Viscardi scored for Purchase in the 61st minute to make it 6-1, when Bridget Lynch scored three times in quick succession to put Lasell ahead 9-1 with just over 20 minutes to play.

Lasell finished with a 10-1 victory, as Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) earned the win in goal for Lasell, holding Purchase scoreless in 59 minutes of work. Freshmen Cina Grimes (Pelham, N.H.) and Caitlin Greco (Higganum, Conn.) split the final 30 minutes of action in goal for Lasell.
