WORCESTER, MA—Lasell College and Clark University dueled through two overtimes but held each other off for a scoreless tie in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night at Granger Soccer Complex.
The Lasers extend their unbeaten streak to 12 games with their first tie of the year, leaving their overall record at 11-2-1. The Cougars move to 4-7-2 on the season.
It was an extremely close contest with both teams taking 15 shots in the game, but Lasell held a slight edge in corner kicks, 6-3. Lasell's goalie Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) performed excellent making eight saves in her fourth consecutive solo shutout of the season. Clark's goalkeeper Audrey Eisemann (Worcester, MA) also played to a shutout, stopping four shots in the process.
Jamie Harris (Lynnfield, MA) had a near-make late in regulation when she fired a shot past Eisemann but connected with the far post to preserve the 0-0 game. The Cougars got a similar chance early in the first overtime when Hana Chamoun (Bala Cynwyn, PA) got behind the Lasers defense and knocked one off the post as well. Janelle Pasternack (East Brookfield, MA) took a subsequent shot on the returned ball but Stickley was able to swat the chance away.
Stickley once again was up for the challenge in the second overtime when a trio of shots came her way. First, a free kick by Jenna Zarou (Garden City, NY) was deflected by Lasell's senior goalkeeper and Charlotte Mays (Melrose, MA) bounded on the loose ball for a second chance shot. Stickley denied that chance and then, while the ball was still in the box, she deprived Pasternack of one final chance.
The Lasers shutout streak extends back seven games to September 22nd during which time Brandeis scored one goal on them in a 2-1 Laser win. In fact, Lasell has let up only seven goals this season, and has outscored their opponents 51-7.
Lasell will challenge St. Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday, October 15th at noon on Taylor Field. The game will also mark their annual "Play 4 a Cure" game during which time the Lasers will collect money to support breast cancer research. This weekend also marks Family, Friends, and Alumni weekend for Lasell College and will be Senior Day for the women's soccer team. The Senior Day ceremony will begin 10 minutes prior to the start of the contest on Saturday and will honor seven senior Lasell women's soccer players.
