Harris Tallies Natural Hat Trick as Lasers Trounce Mustangs

Newton, MA— Freshman phenom Jamie Harris (Lynnfield, MA) scored three consecutive goals as the Lasell College women's soccer team trounced Mount Ida College, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Today marks the second time in a week that Harris has scored a hat trick in GNAC competition, aiding the Lasers to a 8-2-1 overall record and 5-1-1 slate in league play.  The Mustangs fall to a 2-8-1 season and a 0-7-0 conference record.

Lasell was in control of the tempo of the contest from the opening moments, edging Mount Ida 34-1 in shot attempts and 5-1 in corner kicks.  Mount Ida goalkeeper Megan Begins (Jericho, VT) made a noteworthy 17 stops in the visitors net, while Lasell's Ashley Parrelli (Marshfield, MA)  turned out her second individual shutout of the season with one save. Lasell defenders Jill Greaney (Holyoke, MA), Molly Clarke (Berlin, CT), and Olivia Tsakiris (Killingly, CT) were also instrumental in keeping the Mustangs from penetrating the Lasers' backfield.

Harris began her string of goals at 13:09 when she gathered a leading pass from Mary Farley (Middleboro, MA) and chipped a high lob shot over a charging Begins' head.  Harris then scored at exactly 21 minutes after chasing down a lofty pass from Reegan Brackett (Scarborough, ME) and sliding into the shot from just inside the six.  The 2-0 Lasers advantage endured through halftime.

Just under 15 minutes into the second frame, Harris completed on her trio of goals.  The freshman forward displayed her skills as she maintained possession while dribbling through multiple Mustang defenders before sniping in her final goal of the day from eight yards out.

Less than two minutes later, Meredith Hessler (Middletown, RI) launched a bomb from 25 yards out which Begins mishandled allowing Farley to recover the fumbled save and drill it into Mount Ida's net for a 4-0 lead.  The final tally of the game was scored by freshman Anna Teter (Granville, MA) with the assistance of the goalpost which redirected her shot into the back of the Mustangs net for 5-0 final score.

The Lasers will be hosted by Emerson College on Monday, October 11th in their next GNAC contest.  Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
