Cadets Fall to Lasers in GNAC Play

Northfield, VT – On the slick terrain of Howard Field on a cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon, the women Cadets of Norwich University fell to the Lasers of Lasell College, 3-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.

The Lasers are undefeated in their last four games, boosting their record to 7-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in GNAC play.  The Cadets hold a 6-5 record overall and a 4-3 conference slate.

Jessica Taylor (Standish, ME) scored her fifth season goal taking a strike from outside the 18-yard box and placing it top shelf out of reach of Norwich goalkeeper Alecia Wright.  Taylor's goal got Lasell on the board at 11:55.

Four minutes later, Norwich's leading scorer, sophomore Brittany Casey, tied the game sliding to tuck the ball underneath a diving Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) in the Lasers net.

At 27:13, Lasell's Allyson Bushey (Westminster, MA) tallied the eventual game-winner.  Junior Liz McGeoy (Doylestown, PA) began the play setting up Bushey to beat Wright in the upper right corner of the net.  Freshman Melissa Leonard (North Brookfield, MA) then scored her first collegiate goal off Taylor's corner kick in the 86th minute to secure the win.

Lasell was in control of the game for the majority of the minutes, outshooting the Cadets 28-14 and producing eight corner kicks to Norwich's four.  Stickley made five saves in the Lasers net while Wright turned away 13 chances by the Lasers.

Lasell will host GNAC rivals Mount Ida College on Saturday, October 9th at noon on Taylor Field.
