McGeoy's OT Goal Lifts Lasers Past Rams

Somerville, Mass.-Lasell's Liz McGeoy (Doylestown, PA) scored twenty-eight seconds into the first overtime to secure a 1-0 win over Suffolk University on a rainy Saturday evening, at Dilboy Stadium.  The win is the first conference win in the 2009 season for the Lasers, who improve to 2-1-0 overall (1-0-0 GNAC).

Early scoring opportunities were squandered by both teams all day.  The Lasers had three near-makes which bounced off the crossbar, including a header by freshman Mary Farley (Middleboro, Mass.) off a corner kick that hit the top of the goal post with 21 minutes left in the contest.

Lasell spent most of the contest on the attack, outshooting the Rams 26-8 over the course of the evening.  Lasell's defenders and goalkeeper Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, Mass.) held Suffolk's leading scorer, and last week's GNAC Rookie of the Week, Leslie Hayden (Ross, CA) scoreless for the first time all season. Hayden had the final regulation scoring attempt with ten seconds left in the contest, but was stifled by Stickley.   Lasell's keeper made four saves in the matchup.

McGeoy's game winner came after a scramble in front of the net, subsequent to a shot from Farley.   This was McGeoy's first goal of the season.

Lasell will be in action on Tuesday, Sept. 15th as they travel to Clark College in a non-league game scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
