Clarke Tallies Game Winner Over Local Rivals

Newton, Mass.-The Lasell College women's soccer team upended neighboring rivals, and GNAC foe, Mount Ida College 1-0 on the Mustang's senior day, this past Saturday.  The Lasers currently stand in fifth place in the conference standings with just one regular season GNAC contest left to go before the post-season tournament. Lasell's record stands at 8-4-2 overall, and 7-2-2 in league play.

Most of the action during the game was dominated by the Lasers who pounded 33 total shots to Mount Ida's seven in the ninety minute contest.  Lasell also had an amazing 25 attempts at corner kicks, while the Mustangs only received two opportunities.

Lasell's goalkeeper, Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, Mass.) would record the shutout, her fourth total of the season, and third solo.

Both teams had chances to take over the lead early into the match, but neither team would net a goal before the break.  The lone goal of the game was scored by Molly Clarke (Berlin, Conn.) in the 56th minute of the second half.  Clarke, who was left uncovered in front of the net, received a perfect pass from junior striker Allyson Bushey (Westminster, Mass.) and shot to the top left corner on the wide open goal.

Late in the second half the Mustangs gave Lasell a scare when Becky Tisbert (Cambridge, VT) sent a potential threat towards the net off a corner kick, however, Stickley was able to remove the chance to seal the 1-0 win.   Stickley finished with two stops in the contest.

Lasell's next matchup is slated against Rhode Island College on Tuesday, October 27th, at 6:00 p.m.   The Lasers will then face Johnson & Wales University on Thursday, October 29th, on the Wildcats home field for their final regular season GNAC matchup.
