Colby-Sawyer Defeats Lasers 2-0

New London, NH- The Lasell College women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2009 season Thursday evening, 2-0, at Colby-Sawyer College.

After an uneventful first 11 minutes into the contest, Charger Ashley Reis (Peterborough, NH) took off down the middle of the field and drilled a shot on Lasell's keeper Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, Mass.).  Stickley was up to the task, getting both hands on the ball, however, the ball rebounded back to Reis who did not hesitate and fired the deflected ball into the net.

The Lasers attempted to even things out heading into the intermission, but Colby-Sawyer's net-minder Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.) saved everything the Lasers shot at her.  The Chargers retained their 1-0 advantage at the half, outshooting the Lasers 8-6, while the Lasers held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Both teams battled for position throughout the opening minutes of the second half.  It was Reis who struck again in the 11th minute when she curved a ball towards the Lasers' net from the left flank.  The ball flew over Stickley's head and bounced off the cross bar where sophomore Abby Willis (Uxbridge, Mass.) was waiting in the box to tally the Chargers second goal.

Jordynn Frollo (Uxbridge, Mass.) was aggressive for the Lasers in the midfield, testing Spencer three times in the contest.  Allyson Bushey (Westminster, Mass.), Molly Clarke (Berlin, Conn.), and Emily Machado (Marshfield, Mass.) each challenged the Chargers keeper as well, but with no reward.  Stickley finished the day with six saves in the loss.

On Saturday, September 12th, Lasell will begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference play at Suffolk University.  The Lasers and the Rams will face off at 6:00 p.m.
