Lasers & Gators Finish in Deadlock in Double OT

Newton, Mass.-  Both the Lasell College Lasers and the Pine Manor College Gators scored in the first 20 minutes of the game, then remained scoreless for the rest of the regulation and two overtime periods, leaving the teams in a deadlock tie, 1-1, on Taylor Field.

Lasell opened the scoring with a goal by Meredith Hessler (Middletown, RI) at 5:58 into the game. Hessler snuck past the Gators defense and pursued a corner kick by Alaina Mitrano (Medford, MA), giving the Lasers a 1-0 edge.

The Gators came back to tie the game when defender Beth Deegan (Philadelphia, PA) fed Alicia Grenier (Swansea, MA) with a leading pass from midfield.  Grenier shot from short left field and connected with the far right corner of the net.

Lasell controlled the ball offensively for the remainder of the half, giving the Gators only one more shot attempt after their goal.  Lasell fired in 28 shots at Pine Manors goalkeeper Kayla Nielsen (Saco, ME), who had 10 saves before the break.

Second half, the Lasers continued to dominate for the first 20 minutes, with ten Lasers taking shots, but they were unable to capitalize.  The final 15 minutes of the game, the Gators picked up their offense, with six shot opportunities.  Lasers goalkeeper Jamie Remmers (West Islip, NY) picked up 4 saves in the half.

In the twenty minutes of overtime play, Lasell's defense only gave Pine Manor one shot attempt, while the Lasers had 9 chances to score, but the game ended in a standstill.  Remmers completed the game with 5 total saves, and Nielsen stopped 22 Lasers' shots.

The Lasers will look ahead to another GNAC contest on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m. when they challenge Mount Ida College on Taylor Field.  Lasell stands at 4-3-1 overall, and 3-2-1 in the conference.
