LASERS BREAK MUSTANGS WITH 1-0 VICTORY

Lasell College shut out visiting GNAC rival Mount Ida College, 1-0, this afternoon in women's soccer action.   Lasell's Allyson Bushey (Westminster, MA) scored the contests only goal, giving the hosts their fourth league win, and improving their overall record to 5-3-1.

Neither team took decided control of the game during the first period, though the Lasers had a 6-3 shot advantage over the Mustangs at the half.  Bushey threatened to score twice within the first five minutes of play with striking shots on goal for the Lasers, but her attempts were stifled by Mustang keeper Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT).

The Lasers then challenged Begin shortly after when Ashley Lambert (Salem, MA) sent a beautiful pass off a corner kick right in front of the net, which ended in a near goal for the Lasers, before Begin scooped up her third save.

Prior to the conclusion of the period, Mount Ida's Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA) and Elizabeth Sutton (Orange, CT) each looked to break the scoreless half with shots on goal.  Lorenco's shot would have scored has she not been found offsides, negating the goal, while Sutton's attempt was saved by Lasell's goal keeper Jamie Remmers (West Islip, NY),  ending the half in a 0-0 impasse.

The teams continued to play even through the first 19 minutes of the second half.   At 64:57, Lasell's Alexi Giatrelis (Mashpee, MA) chipped a pass to Bushey who headed the ball past Begins to produce the game winning goal.

Though the Mustangs continued their efforts through the remaining minutes, they were thwarted by Lasers defender Jordynn Frollo (Uxbridge, MA) whom played tremendously well during the entire game protecting Lasell's end of the field.  The Lasers retained their 1-0 lead, allowing Remmers to pick up her first shutout of the season.

The Mustangs drop to 1-6-0 in conference play, while the Lasers bump up to 4-2-1.

Lasell picks up conference play again on Wednesday, October 15th, when they host Rivier College.  Game will be played on Taylor Field, at 3:30 p.m.
