WLax: Lasers Lock-Down Playoff Spot in Win over Elms

Chicopee, Mass.- The Lasers earned a playoff spot in the quarterfinals this evening after a 9-8 overtime win against Elms college.

The game began with a two-goal lead from the Lasers in the first quarter with goals from seniors Teresa Kessner and Kaitlin Bedell.

In the second quarter, the Blazers tied up the game with two assisted goals, sending the game into a tied 2-2 score at the half.

The Blazers came out with two goals early in the third quarter to take the lead, followed by two more Kessner goals and a final Elms goal to end the quarter 5-4.

Elms continued to take the lead with two more goals in the beginning of the fourth, with two more Kessner goals narrowing their lead. Elms would score their final goal with five minutes left in the game.

Kessner responded with another quick goal off of a free position shot, with another goal from Bedell with two minutes left in the quarter to tie the game up 8-8 heading into overtime.

The Lasers dominated overtime play, gaining the first possession off the draw. After a failed free position shot and Lasell turnover, Kessner caused a turnover off of a clear attempt, leading to a game-ending shot by Bedell.

Lasell lead the game in draw controls with 15 successful possessions compared to 5 from the Blazers. Lasell also outshot Elms 33-24.

Up next: The Lasers will enter GNAC tournament play in a quarterfinal playoff game against Emmanuel College on Saturday at 12:00pm.
