WLX: Lasell rolls past Rivier for fourth straight victory

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell University women's lacrosse team posted its fourth straight victory Saturday afternoon, rolling past Rivier University, 20-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at Grellier Field.

Lasell improves to 5-1 overall (5-1 GNAC) while Rivier falls to 0-3 (0-2 GNAC).

The Lasers took control early, jumping out to a 7-0 through the first 10 minutes of the game, as junior Sydney Brady (Westfield, Mass.) and freshman Teresa Kessner (Brentwood, N.Y.) tossed in two goals apiece. Graduate student Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.) added three goals in a little more than two minutes along with a goal by sophomore Sam Jones (Manchester, Conn.) to extend the lead to 11-0 midway through the half, and the Lasers went on to a 13-0 margin at the break.

Rivier hung tough and limited the Lasers to two goals in the first 12 minutes, including the first of the season for senior defender Caitie Grady (Southbury, Conn.) Lasell tacked on four more goals before Rivier broke through with a late goal by senior Nicole Mansfield (Acton, Mass.)

McComb, who leads the nation in Division III in goals and points per game, finished with nine points for Lasell on five goals and four assists. Junior Sophia Gadsden (Randolph, Mass.) tallied a career-high four goals and one assist, and Brady added three goals as eight different players got into the scoring column.

Lasell finished with a 39-10 advantage in shots, 15-8 in draw controls, and 31-13 in ground balls.

Graduate student Morgan Choquet (Woonsocket, R.I.) and junior Devin Zambruno (Plympton, Mass.) each played 30 minutes in goal and each made three saves, while Rivier freshman goalie Lindsey Kruger (New Bedford, Mass.) made 10 saves at the other end.

Lasell will play its final regular season game this Wednesday, April 21, on Senior Day at Grellier Field against Dean University (4:00 p.m.).
