GNAC: Two Women’s Lacrosse and two Baseball players earn weekly honors

NEWTON, Mass. – Two members of both the Lasell University baseball and women's lacrosse teams received weekly honors from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Monday for their performances in Laser action last week.

Graduate students Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I./Mt. Saint Charles Academy) and Morgan Choquet (Woonsocket, R.I./Mt. Saint Charles Academy) were named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Player and Goalie of the Week, respectively, while junior Matt Motyka (Vernon, Conn./Cheney Tech) and freshman Darek Lallo (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) were selected GNAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

A three-time All-GNAC midfielder, McComb filled up the stat sheet in Lasell's 16-13 GNAC victory Wednesday over Johnson & Wales University, collecting six goals, three assists, eight draw controls, four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Monday's honor marked the second time this season and fourth time in her career that McComb has been recognized with the GNAC's top weekly honor.

McComb leads the GNAC this spring with 20 goals and ranks second with 11 assists and 31 points. She also ranks tied for second with 25 draw controls, tied for third with nine caused turnovers, and fifth with 12 ground balls.

An All-GNAC goalie in 2019, Choquet made 11 saves in Lasell's 16-13 GNAC victory Wednesday over Johnson & Wales University.  She made two saves on free-position attempts on potential game-tying shots late in the second half.

Choquet is tied for the GNAC lead this spring with 25 saves and ranks third with two victories. She is also fourth in save percentage (.417) and seventh in goals against average (15.37).

A junior first baseman, Motyka batted .429 (6-for-14) with a double, two runs scored and four RBI in a 2-2 week for the Lasers. He went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a second-game loss Monday at Trinity College, and he was 3-for-7 with an RBI and two runs scored Friday in a GNAC doubleheader sweep of Norwich.

Motyka leads the Lasers with a .406 batting average in 12 games this spring, collecting a team-high 13 hits, including a team-best three doubles. He is also tied for third on the team with five RBI.

A rookie lefthander, Lallo earned his second career victory on Friday with a 5-1 GNAC victory over Norwich, allowing four hits and one walk over six innings, striking out five. He pitched five scoreless innings, giving up just two hits, before surrendering his only run in the sixth inning on two hits and departing with a 5-1 lead.

Lallo has posted a 2-1 record in three starts this spring with a 3.07 earned run average and eight strikeouts in 14.2 innings. He ranks second on the staff among starters in ERA and strikeouts.
