Lasell Women's Lacrosse powers past Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Lasell College used a balanced team effort Thursday evening to defeat Elms College 20-3 in a non-conference women's lacrosse victory at Leary Field.

The Lasers had a 36-13 advantage in shots and won 18 of the 23 draws in the win. Eleven different players got into the scoring column as Lasell improved to 7-3 overall. Elms had its two-game winning streak stopped as the Blazers dropped to 2-7.

Sophomore Jorgia Bergin (Sandwich, Mass.) led Lasell with four goals while juniors Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.) and Vanessa Pino (Methuen, Mass.) and freshman Kellie Matthews (Walpole, Mass.), added three each. Pino also tallied four assists and Matthews set up two goals. Sophomore Chloe Shugrue (Worcester, Mass.) had a strong game in the midfield with a game-high eight draw controls.

The Lasers scored the first eight goals in the opening 10 minutes of the game before Elms got on the scoreboard. The visitors held a 13-2 lead at halftime before tallying the first six goals of the second half to blow the game open.

Laser sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Choquet (Woonsocket, R.I.) stopped eight shots to record the win. Elms goalkeeper Emily Huber (Jefferson, Maine) finished with nine saves.

Lasell returns home to host Simmons College on Saturday, April 7, in a Great Northeast Athletic College (GNAC) at Grellier Field, beginning at noon. The game is also the Senior Day contest, honoring Lasell's two seniors. Elms will return to New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday when Bay Path makes the short trip up to Chicopee at 11:00 a.m.
