Lasell Women's Lacrosse edged by Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. – Junior Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) netted nine goals and an assist for 10 points Saturday afternoon as Mount Ida College posted its first victory over crosstown rival Lasell in eight years with a 15-10 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse triumph at Alumni Field.

The host Mustangs (8-1, 4-0 GNAC), who have matched the longest winning streak in school history with their seventh straight victory, watched the visiting Lasers (5-3, 2-2 GNAC) jump out to a 3-0 advantage just 3:22 into the contest before rallying back to even matters at 5-5 on Kelly's fourth goal of the day with 11:48 remaining in the half.  Kelly gave Mount Ida the lead for good with a tally 2:49 later for a 6-5 advantage at the break, and the hosts netted the first three markers after intermission to take a 9-5 edge on senior Emily McConnell's (Dracut, Mass.) goal with 19:09 remaining.

Lasell closed back to within three on junior Vanessa Pino's (Methuen, Mass.) tally with 17:46 to play, but the Mustangs responded with three more unanswered markers over a 6:31 stretch to extend their lead to six (12-6) on Kelly's eighth of the afternoon with just over 10 minutes remaining.  The Lasers scored three of the next four goals (including two from Pino) to creep back to within four (13-9) with 3:56 to play, but Mount Ida iced its triumph on a free position conversion by junior Brooke Scahill (Gales Ferry, Conn.) and a man-up marker by senior Hayley Napier (Fairhaven, Mass.) to account for the final margin.

Scahill, who has collected 33 points in the last three outings, added a hat trick and five assists in today's triumph for Mount Ida, while McConnell became the ninth member of the Mustang 100 Point Club with her marker.  Napier added an assist to go with her goal for the hosts, who also received a tally off the stick of freshman Jordyn Ringuette (Colchester, Conn.).

Pino finished with four goals in the setback for Lasell, which received two tallies and an assist from senior Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) along with a pair of markers from Taylor.  Freshman Kellie Matthews (Walpole, Mass.) added a goal and an assist on the day for the Lasers, who received a tally from sophomore Amanda DiLeonardo (West Haven, Conn.) and a helper off the stick of junior Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.).

Senior Eleanor Garvey (Elkridge, Md.) picked up her eighth win of the season with a 13-save effort in goal for Mount Ida, while sophomore Morgan Choquet (Woonsocket, R.I.) made 14 stops in the setback for Lasell.  The Mustangs outshot the Lasers by a 33-26 margin overall (29-23 on goal) and held a 14-13 edge in draw controls for the contest, as the victory was the first for the hosts over the visitors since their first ever meeting on April 2, 2010 (a 14-8 Mount Ida triumph).

Mount Ida hosts Simmons in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference outing on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Lasell entertains Regis in a GNAC match on Tuesday afternoon in Auburndale, Mass. that begins at 4:00 p.m.
