Western New England Grabs 21-8 Win Over Lasell in Women's Lacrosse

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (4/17/14) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team fell 21-8 to Western New England University on Thursday afternoon at Golden Bear Stadium. The Lasers slid to 8-7 on the season while Western New England claimed their 15th win of the season as they remained undefeated in 2014.

Bridget Doherty and Taylor Dooley each scored a pair of goals for Lasell, Britney Wuorio added a goal and two assists, and Ashley Gleason chipped in a goal and a helper in the game. Alexa Katsigianis made 10 saves before giving way to Brook Bergeron who allowed a pair of goals while stopping one shot.

Kaitlynn Stevens scored a game-high eight goals for WNE, Taylor Scialdone netted a pair of goals and handed out six assists and Bethany Peters finished with six points on three goals and three assists in the win. Emily Castleman made three saves in net to earn the victory and Melissa Perry allowed two goals in relief for the Golden Bears.

Bethany Peters staked the hosts to a 1-0 lead just 38 seconds into the contest and Britney Wuorio scored on a feed from Gleason 40 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. WNE responded with three straight goals, including a pair by Stevens made it a 4-1 margin. Lasell trimmed the deficit to 4-2 on a goal by Doherty but Western New England responded with a 9-3 run to close the half, taking a 13-5 lead into the halftime break. Western New England out-scored the Lasers 8-3 over the final 30 minutes to collect their 15th victory of the season with a 21-8 win.

Lasell will close out their regular season with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup against Albertus Magnus College on Saturday September 19th at 2:30 p.m. The Lasers will recognize seniors Britney Wuorio, Jen Lemoine and Solange Carpenter for their contributions to the women's lacrosse program over the last four years.
