Women's Lacrosse Bounces Back with 24-12 Win at Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. (4/15/14) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team knocked off cross-town for Mount Ida College, 24-12 on Tuesday afternoon on the Mustangs home field. Lasell improved to 8-6 overall and 6-3 in Great Northeast Athletics Conference games while Mount Ida slipped to 6-10 on the season and 2-7 in league contests.

Taylor Dooley (Barnstable, Mass.) tallied a career-high five goals along with one assist in the victory for Lasell, Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) netted five goals and Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.) chipped in four goals and an assist. Ashley Gleason (Suffield, Conn.) scored a career-high four goals and Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) scored twice and handed out a game-high five assists for the Lasers. Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, N.H.) made five saves in just over 45 minutes of work before giving way to Brooke Bergeron (Swampscott, Mass.) who made a pair of saves in the win.

Amanda Bowen finished with a team-high five points on four goals and one assist for Mount Ida and Rebecca Beaulieu chipped in four goals. Molly Sheppard added two goals and and assist for the Mustangs, and Sammy Levitt made eight saves while taking the loss in the cage for Lasell.

Mount Ida's Beaulieu opened the scoring just 26 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal to put the Mustangs in front 1-0. Toni Minelli (Newington, Conn.) responded with a free position goal two minutes later to tie the score and Lasell scored two more just a minute and a half apart as Brecher and Lisi Anczok (Buffalo, N.Y.) each scored to put Lasell up 3-1. Bowen and Sheppard each scored for Mount Ida, tying the score at 3-3 with 14:50 remaining in the first half. Lasell caught fire, scoring seven unanswered goals including three by Doherty and three by Brecher to take a 10-3 lead with less than five minutes to play in the half. The two teams traded goals over the final four plus minutes of the half, sending the Lasers into the intermission with a 12-5 lead.

Mount Ida scored four of the first six goals of the second half, cutting the Lasell lead to 14-9 with less than five minutes gone in the period. Lasell put the game out of reach, scoring 10 goals in the final 25 minutes to just three for Mount Ida to take the 24-12 result.

Lasell will travel to Western New England for a non-conference game on Thursday April 17th before capping the regular season with a GNAC tilt against Albertus Magnus at 2:30 p.m. on April 19th
