NEWTON, Mass. (4/5/14) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team dropped their second straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest, falling 10-8 to visiting St. Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon on Grellier Field. The Monks improved to 6-5 overall while staying undefeated in the league at 5-0 while the Lasers slipped to 5-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference games.

Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) finished with two goals and three assists for Lasell, Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied three goals while Toni Minelli (Newington, Conn.) and Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.) each added a goal and an assist in the loss. Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, N.H.) kept the Lasers in the game, stopping 18 shots on the afternoon while allowing 10 goals.

Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) netted four goals for St. Joseph's College, Lizzie Calnan (Westport, Mass.) chipped in with three goals and one assist and Cassie Diplock (Augusta, Maine) tallied a pair of goals. Haley Nason (Saco, Maine) started in goal for the Monks, allowing seven goals in the first half before being relieved by Elizabeth Giacchino (Melrose, Mass.) who stopped a pair of shots and allowing only one goal in the second half to earn the victory.

Wuorio opened the scoring for the Lasers just a minute and a half into the game to put the hosts on top 1-0. St. Joseph's responded with four straight goals, sandwiching a pair of Calnan markers between scores by Diplock and Gadbois to take a 4-1 lead. Lasell came back with four of the next five goals to tie the score at 5-5 with just under four minutes remaining in the opening half.

Gadbois tallied an unassisted goal to put the visitors on top 6-5 before late goals by Minelli and Brecher sent the Lasers into the half with a 7-6 edge.

St. Joseph's tied the game at 7-7 just five minutes into the half, taking an 8-7 lead with 15 minutes to play in the game and pushing that edge to 9-7 when Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) scored with just over 10 minutes on the clock. Wuorio drew Lasell back within one at 9-8 with an unassisted tally a minute later, but Lasell was unable to find an equalizer, falling 10-8 courtesy of a late goal by Diplock.
