Colby Stops Lasell in Women's Lacrosse NCAA Action

Newton, Mass. (5/8/13) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team saw their unbelievable 2013 season come to a close at Colby College as they fell 19-3 to the nation's seventh ranked team. The Lasers, who were making their first ever NCAA tournament appearance on the heels of a 9-0 record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play finished the season with a 15-4 record. Their 15 wins tied the program record set by the 2012 team.

Senior Ashley Slattery scored a pair of goals for Lasell and junior Britney Wuorio added an unassisted goal in the contest. Freshmen goalkeeper Sammy Long made seven saves on the evening for the Lasers.

Colby was led by Alex Mintz's two goals and six assists while Kate Pistel tallied three goals and one assist and Lindsey McKenna added a trio of goals for the Mules. Michelle Burt was credited with the win in goal for Colby, making three saves in 22 minutes of work.

Colby used an 18-6 advantage in draw controls and a 43-8 edge in shots to win their sixth consecutive NCAA tournament first round game. The Mules scored the first 11 goals of the contest before Ashley Slattery got the Lasers on the board with an unassisted goal at the 8:24 mark in the first half. Colby added another goal before intermission, taking a 12-1 lead at the break.

Slattery netted a free position shot with 23:35 remaining in the contest to make it a 13-2 margin, and Wuorio added the third goal of the game with just under three minutes to play.

Colby advanced and will play The College of New Jersey at Trinity (Conn.) on Saturday afternoon.
