Women's Lacrosse Season Completes in Semi-Finals of ECAC Tournament

MILTON, MA- In the semi-finals of the ECAC Division III New England Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Wednesday, the Lasell College Lasers fell to the Curry College Colonels, 20-12,  marking the completion of the 2011 women's lacrosse campaign.

Despite the Colonels outshooting Lasell by double, 44-22, the Lasers remained in step with the hosts with 17 draw controls each.  Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) led the Lasers with seven goals and one assists for eight points while Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) had two goals and three assists for five points.  Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA), Neila Kudla (Groton, MA), and Britney Wuorio  (Bolton, MA) had one goal each.

Curry's tandem pairing of Jessie Koffman (Andover, MA) and Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, MA) combined for 13 of the Colonels 20 goals.   Koffman topped all scorers with 11 points, netting seven goals and adding four assists.  Hansbury finished with six goals and three assists for nine points.

The win went to Curry's senior goalie Maria Lynch (Billerica, MA) who scooped up 10 saves in her 16th victory of the season.  Lasell's Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA) made 16 saves in the net in her final game of her senior season.

Koffman put the Colonels on the board with three and half minutes ticked off the clock and Hansbury added to the advantage after the ensuing draw control, for a 2-0 lead through four minutes.  Canavan tied the score up during the next couple of minutes with back-to-back goals, and by the 20 minute mark the teams had knotted the score at 3-all.

That tie would be broken with a 6-0 run by the Colonels which would leave Lasell behind 9-3 through the ten minute mark.  Kudla broke up the scoreless stretch for Lasell, and Stanton and Canavan notched one goal each to cut the deficit to just three goals, but Curry netted four more before the break to hold a 13-6 edge at halftime.

Upon returning to action, Lasell began to inch their way back into the game with three of the first four goals scored in the half.  Unfortunately for the Lasers, Curry went on another 5-0 run through the final 14 minutes of play to put the game out of reach.  Slattery scored the final goal of the game with 1:27 left to play.

With the win, Curry improves to 16-4 overall and will face the no. 1 seed Western New England College on Saturday, May 14th at WNEC.  The Lasers season concludes at 11-7.
