Wellesley’s Potent Offense Strikes Lasell

WELLESLEY, MA-  Wellesley College used a potent offense with five starters scoring four or more points to drive home a 20-5 triumph against the Lasell College women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon.  The Blue notched their third straight victory in as many games, while the Lasers remain without a win in the early stretch of the season, dropping to 0-3. 

 

The Blue built a 44-8 shot advantage through the contest, maintaining possession for the majority of the minutes.  Wellesley also held the edge in draw controls (17-9) and ground balls (30-14).

 

Senior Chelsea Caren (Redding, CT), sophomore Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA), and freshman Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) all collected two points in the non-conference event.  Caren and Slattery each connected on a pair of goals for the Lasers and Wuorio secured one goal and added one assist. 


Slattery also grabbed a game-high five draw controls, adding two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Caren picked up three ground balls and two draw controls and senior April McGrath (Willow Grove, PA) chipped in with three draw controls and one caused turnover. 

 

Laser goalie Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA) turned aside 12 shots by the Blue, making six saves in each half of the contest.

 

Wellesley pulled ahead on an 7-0 run to start the contest before Lasell cut down the hosts advancement with a 4-1 stretch of their own to close the half.  After the break, Wellesley exploded for 12 second half marks, while the Lasers converted on just one attempt in the half.  

 

Leading all scorers was first-year Britt Mscisz (Topsfield, MA) who finished the day with six points for Wellesley, scoring five goals and adding one helper.  Jenny Holland (Bethesda, MD) added four goals and Allison Robbins (North Bennington, VT) and Meredith Roy (Merrimack, NH) scored three goals apiece.  

 

Maria Mattia (Atlanta, GA) made two saves in her third win of the season in the Blue's net. 

 

Both schools are back in action with non-conference opponents on Wednesday, March 16th.  Lasell hosts Anna Maria in a 4:00 p.m. clash, while Wellesley hosts Simmons at 4:30 p.m.
