Lasers Drop Non-Conference Match to Colonels

MILTON, MA- Freshman Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) scored five goals for Lasell in a 20-12 loss to Curry College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday evening. 

 

Adding to Wuorio's team-best in goals was sophomore Neila Kudla (Groton, MA), who scored her fourth career hat trick, adding one assist for four points. Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) netted two goals and senior Chelsea Caren (Redding, CT) and sophomore Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA) each tallied one. Freshman Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, CT) added two assists for the Lasers.

 

Curry senior Jessie Koffman (Andover, MA) scored nine goals and dished out four assists to lead the Colonels to their second straight win.   Junior Lauren Glavin (Billerica, MA) and sophomore Ana Bottary (Hull, MA) had a matching seven points each, both connecting on five goals and handing out two assists and freshman Caity Tobyne (Hamilton, MA) scored her first collegiate goal and also had one assist. 

 

The hosts held a 51-24 advantage in shots, a 16-8 edge in ground balls, and were charged with only 14 turnovers, while Lasell committed 29.  The Lasers did win the battle at the draw, picking up 19-of-34 total draw controls.  Neither team created offense on three total extra-man opportunities.

 

Less than two minutes into the contest, Curry got on the board with a Gavin tally from Ana Bottary (Hull, mA).  Wuorio evened the score, unassisted, just 11 seconds later charging down field off the draw to score.  Through the next two minutes, Koffman and Kudla traded free possession goals leading to a 2-all tie, at which point Curry went on a 6-0 run to produce an 8-2 lead by the 14th minute. 

 

Wuorio eventually stopped the Colonels scoring spree with two marks of her own to end the half, 8-4.

 

Slattery and Caren started the second period with goals through the 2:36 mark to close the gap to just two, but the Colonels set in motion a 7-1 run, which included the game winning goal by Bottary, to sneak out of reach.

 

Maria Lynch (Billerica, MA) earned the win for Curry, making nine saves between the pipes.  Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA) recored 18 saves in a losing effort.

 

 Lasell's (0-2) next contest will be on the road at Wellesley on March 12th, with a 12:00 p.m. start.
