Lasers Extend Win Streak to Three at Anna Maria

PAXTON, MA– Junior Tina Canavan (Stonington, Conn.) had a game-high seven points on six goals and one assist, leading the Lasell College women’s lacrosse team to a 20-10 victory over Anna Maria College in a Division III matchup at AMCAT Field on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Lasers improve to 3-2 on the season, while the loss drops the AMCATS to an 0-3 start.

 

In addition to leading all players in points, Canavan also produced a game-high eight ground balls and seven draw controls, while causing five turnovers.  Freshman midfielder Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) collected five points, scoring three times and handing out two assists.  Chelsea Caren (Redding, CT) provided an additional three goals to Lasell’s mix and Andrea Ward (Hingham, MA), Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA), and Neila Kudla (Groton, MA) chipped in with two goals apiece. 

 

Junior goalkeeper Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA) earned her second win of the year, making nine saves in sixty minutes. 

 

The AMCATS were led by sophomore Katie Schebel’s (Ludlow, Mass.) team-best six goals, while Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) added four points on three goals and an assist, in addition to collecting a team-high six draw controls. Junior Sarah Moore (Holden, Mass.) also scored for AMC while freshman Dina Andre (White Plains, N.Y.) added an assist, and senior Shayna Arasimowicz (Pittsfield, Mass.) grabbed a team-high four ground balls.

 

Lasell held the advantage in nearly every statistical category, edging Anna Maria 36-25 in shots, 23-12 in ground balls, 6-1 in free possession shots, and 20-12 in draw controls. 

 

The teams traded goals over the course of the first ten minutes, for an even 4-all tie at the 20 minute mark.  Two back-to-back Canavan goals boosted the Lasers to a 6-4 lead, followed by a Slattery mark, and consecutive Stanton tallies, giving Lasell a 9-4 lead with 11:40 remaining in the half.  One AMCAT goal by Schebel with 51 ticks left before the break brought the halftime score to 9-5, Lasers advantage.

 

The Lasers opened the second half with momentum, scoring three goals in three minutes of action.  Canavan began the plight with a free possession attack, followed by a Canavan assist on Ward’s second goal.  Slattery’s penalty shot upped the Lasers’ advantage to seven goals.   Schebel broke up the scoring by finding the back of the Lasers’ net twice in the 23rd minute, but Lasell went on to score seven of the next eight goals to put the game away.

 

Lasell will be back in action on Thursday, March 18th, hosting Rhode Island College at 1:00 p.m. on Grellier Field.
