Newton, MA - The Lasell University Women's Basketball team defeated the Anna Maria AMCATS on Saturday by a final score of 68-53. It was the first time the Lasers defeated the AMCATS since January of 2017. The Lasers are now 10-6 on the season, and 4-2 in GNAC play. The AMCATS are now 7-9 and 2-5.

It was an even first quarter, as neither team ever led by more than three. The two teams entered the second quarter tied at 16. The Lasers would have another 16 points in the second quarter, but their defense was able to hold the AMCATS to just five. A 12-0 helped the Lasers grab control, and they led 32-21 at the break.

The third quarter saw Anna Maria get back into the game, as they closed the gap to five, with the Lasers leading 46-41 entering the fourth. After the AMCATS tied things up at 46 two minutes into the final quarter, the Lasers dug deep, and didn't let the AMCATS grab a lead. Up 54-53 with four minutes left to play, the Lasers ended the game on a 14-0 run.

It was a balanced attack for the Lasers, as they were led by Kiara Cerruti's 15, and Shirle Major's 13. Behind them was Blaize Mack with 11, Brooke Damboise with eight, and Mia Sullivan-Sanders with seven. On the boards it was the usual suspects, as Laura Johnson grabbed 16, Jasmine DePina grabbed nine, and Mack grabbed eight. Not usually a rebounder, Damboise also grabbed eight, tied for the second most of her career. Major led the team with four assists.

Up Next - The Lasers will continue GNAC play with a road game at Rivier on Wednesday at 5pm.
