WBB: Lasell Drops GNAC Game to Emmanuel

Newton, MA - The Lasell University Women's Basketball team fell in a conference matchup against Emmanuel on Wednesday by a final score of 77-67. The loss drops the Lasers to 66-6 on the season and 1-2 in GNAC play. The Saints are now 6-7 and 3-0.

The Saints got out to the early lead with an 8-0 run to start the game. But a 7-0 run by the Lasers brought them right back in it. After the two teams traded baskets, the Lasers used a 9-0 run to take a 19-15 lead. They would hold a 19-16 lead at the quarter break. But the Saints came right back with a 10-0 run over the first four minutes of the second, taking a seven point lead. A Shirle Major three pointer, followed by two free throw s for a technical foul on the Emmanuel bench gave the Lasers a five point possession, cutting the Saints lead to 29-28. They would hold a 31-28 lead at the break.

The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game, as the Saints opened the half on a 16-5 run over four minutes. They would expand their lead to as many as 21 early in the fourth. But the Lasers did not go down without a fight, as they went on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to eight. They would ultimately fall 77-67.

The Lasers were led by Shirle Major's 14 points, nine of which came in the first half. Right behind her was Kiara Cerruti with 13. Brooke Damboise and Blaize Mack each had nine. Mack also led the team in rebounds with 11, tied with Laura Johnson. For Johnson it marked the fifth consecutive game with double-digit rebounds, one off the school record of six which she set earlier in the season. She has recorded double-digit rebounds in 11 of 12 games this season.
