WBB: Lasers Use Big First Half to Upend Bobcats

Newton, MA - Playing in their first game of the new year, the Lasell University Lasers Women's Basketball team defeated Paul Smith's College by a final score of 74-54. The win improves the Lasers to 6-4 on the season, while the Bobcats are now 1-4.

It was a big first quarter for the Lasers, as they scored 29 points. They were led by Kiara Cerruti and Shirle Major, as they each scored 10 points. They used a 16-1 run to start the game, and never looked back, holding a 29-12 lead after the period. It was more of the same in the second, with the Lasers outscoring the Bobcats 19-11 to take a 48-23 lead at halftime.

The third quarter proved to be a slower one for the Lasers, as they scored just two points in the first six minutes of the period. But they still maintained a strong 61-38 lead headed into the final quarter. They continued to play hard, and were able to coast to a 74-54 win.

It was a team effort for the Lasers, as all 13 active players got game action, with 11 scoring. This was led by Shirle Major and Kiara Cerrutti, as each scored 17. Also in double-digits was Laura Johnson, as she scored 11. But she made her biggest impact on the game in the rebounding category, grabbing a total of 16, including eight offensive rebounds, tied for the third most in a single game in school history. The team total of 25 offensive rebounds rank sixth all-time. Seven different players recorded an assist, with Erica Lendall leading the way off the bench with five. Nine different players recorded a steal, led by Mia Sullivan-Sanders' three.
