WBB: Johnson Breaks Record in Lasers Loss to Beacons

Boston, MA - The Lasell Lasers Women's Basketball team made a run at a comeback against the UMass Boston Beacons on Tuesday, but ultimately came up just short, falling 59-54. Both teams are now 2-3 on the season.

The Beacons got out to an early led, and they were able to maintain it throughout the first, they would take a 21-13 lead into the second. The Lasers would make up some ground in the second, using a 7-0 run to get within 28-24. Five of those points came from Brooke Damboise. The Lasers would close within three by halftime, trailing 30-27.

The third quarter proved to be the critical quarter, as the Beacons outscored the Lasers 16-5. While the Lasers would not go away quietly, their comeback proved to be too little, too late. They would use an 8-0 run to get within six, and get as close as five, but were unable to come all the way back.

Laura Johnson once again led the tem in rebounds, grabbing 12. This was her fifth consecutive game grabbing double-digit rebounds, setting a new school record. Four consecutive games had been done by numerous people. Scoring wise, it was a well balanced attack led by two double-digit scorers off the bench in Erica Lendall (13) and Shirle Major (11), Kiara Cerruti and Brooke Damboise each scored eight. Damboise also led the team with six assists.

Up Next - The Lasers will travel to Thomas (ME) next Monday for a 7pm game.
