WBK: Lasell women’s basketball player recognized by GNAC

NEWTON, Mass. – A Lasell University women's basketball player has been selected by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Monday as the player of the week.

Senior Amanda Ortiz (Newton, Mass.) was named GNAC Player of the Week for her success on the court.

Ortiz averaged 23.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 5.0 blocked shots in a 1-1 week for the Lasers. She shot 51.7 percent (15-29) from the field, 44.4 percent (4-9) from three-point range, and 75.0 percent (12-16) from the free throw line. Ortiz put up 26 points, nine rebounds, four assists, five steals and seven blocked shots in a win over UMaine Presque Isle, and registered an impressive double-double with 20 points, a career-high 16 rebounds, three blocks and two steals against UMaine Farmington in Lasell's first loss of the season after a program-best four wins to start the campaign.

Ortiz was also named to the all-tournament team in the GNAC-NAC challenge this past weekend.

The Lasers will continue their strong start to the season tomorrow evening at 6 pm in the Athletic Center for their home-opener against Framingham State.
