NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, Calif.) scored a game-high 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting Thursday evening as Emerson College defeated Lasell College, 82-49, in non-conference women's basketball action at the Lasell Athletic Center.

Boyle was joined in double figures by classmate Natalie Busch (Weybridge, England), who scored 16 points and added nine rebounds, and junior Kate Foultz (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), who chipped in with 13 points off the bench. Emerson improves to 6-3 on the season.

Junior Amanda Ortiz (Newton, Mass.) led the Lasers with 17 points, five rebounds, and five steals. Graduate student Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) and sophomore Peyton Young (Douglas, Mass.) added eight points apiece but the Lasers dropped to 4-6 on the season.

Emerson shot 47.5 percent from the field (32-of-67) and 45.5 percent from long range (10-of-22), while the Lasers managed to convert just 27.5 percent of their shots (14-of-51), including 21.4 percent from beyond the arc (3-of-14). The visitors dominated the board by a 52-28 count.

It was a three-point game (8-5) midway through the first half, but Emerson outscored the home team 11-5 over the next five minutes to take a 19-10 lead after one quarter. The Lions scored the first seven points of the second quarter to push the margin up to 16 points (26-10). Lasell whittled the deficit back down to single digits (33-24) after a pair of Young free throws with 3:25 remaining, but Emerson outscored the Lasers 11-1 to close out the half, taking a 44-25 advantage into the locker room.

Lasell got as close as 13 points in the third quarter before Emerson pulled away and the Lasers didn't threaten the rest of the way.

The Lasers play one more game before the holiday break, hosting Northern Vermont University-Lyndon next Saturday, December 15, at 2:00 p.m at the Lasell Athletic Center. Emerson returns home to host Smith College this Saturday, December 8, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at 1:00 p.m.
