Lasell Women’s Basketball outlasts Elms in overtime

NEWTON, Mass. – Lasell College had five players score in double figures Thursday evening, outlasting Elms College, 77-71, in overtime in non-conference women's basketball action at the Lasell Athletic Center.

Lasell evens its record at 4-4 on the season, while Elms is now 3-3.

Graduate students Imani Bumpus (Dedham, Mass.) and Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) split the Laser team lead in scoring with 13 points each. Junior D'Asia Allen (Providence, R.I.) added 12 points off the bench, senior Jaime Caron (Derry, N.H.) contributed 11 and junior Taylor Churchill (Fort Fairfield, Maine) chipped in with 10.

Elms sophomore Angelica Peguaro-Flores (Springfield, Mass.) was the game's leading scorer with 23 points, working the paint all game long and making 9-of-13 shots. Junior Molly Moulton (North Adams, Mass.) was good for 15 points and sophomore Regina Leblanc (Enfield, Conn.) recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Elms got out to an early lead and held a 26-24 lead at the break. A three-pointer by Caron to open the second half game the Lasers their first lead. Lasell went on a big run later in the quarter, led by a barrage of three-pointers, getting two from both Allen and Liz Bougie (Sanford, Maine).

The Lasers held a 49-45 lead going into the fourth quarter, which turned into a roller coaster ride, highlighted by another Bumpus three, and then two clutch free throws from Caron. Elms tied the score on a free throw by Peguaro-Flores with 14 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

Overtime was yet another roller coaster ride, until a massive momentum swing for Lasell that came in the form of another Allen three-pointer, that tied the game at 70 and brought the house down. Lasell pulled away in the final minute with six points from Muir, who deserves special praise for her performance in crunch time, going 8-8 from the free throw line. She was 4-4 from the line in overtime, and added in a layup for six total points in OT.

The Lasers return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 1, when they'll travel to Fitchburg State for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off with the Falcons. Elms plays their next game on December 1, returning home for a 1:00 p.m. tip with Becker College.
