BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Junior D'Asia Allen (Providence, R.I.) and graduate student Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) combined for 25 points Saturday afternoon to lead Lasell College's women's basketball team to a 70-39 victory over Medgar Evers College in the 20th annual Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament hosted by Medgar Evers.

Muir led the starting contingent with 11 points and five assists, and senior Jaime Caron (Derry, N.H.) made 3-of-3 for the Lasers, including a three-pointer, to finish with seven points.

The Lasers (2-3) will play in the tournament's championship game on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. against SUNY Old Westbury after the Panthers defeated Simmons University in Saturday's opening contest, 81-78. Old Westbury is off to a 3-0 start to the season.

Medgar Evers had a 13-10 lead with 3:40 remaining in the first quarter, but Lasell outscored the Cougars 14-1 over the rest of the period to take a 24-14 advantage. Caron scored five points in the Laser rally, including a three-point bucket, and six different players contributed points to the run.

Lasell opened up a comfortable lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Cougars 20-9 in the frame. Senior Liz Bougie (Sanford, Maine) made a pair of threes in the quarter for Lasell, and Allen and Muir each connected once from beyond the arc. Seven different Lasers scored in the frame as Lasell held a 44-23 lead at the intermission.

The Lasers blew the game open with nine of the first 11 points of the third quarter to push the margin to 52-25, before coasting to the lopsided victory. Thirteen players got into scoring column for the winners, and 19 players logged playing time.
