Lasell Women’s Basketball defeated by Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. – A difficult season for the Lasell College women's basketball team continued Thursday evening as the Lasers fell to Emerson College in non-conference action, 90-51, at Brown & Plofker Gym.

The Lions were led by 13 points and eight rebounds from junior Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, Calif.) and double figure efforts from junior Natalie Busch (Weybridge, England) and sophomore Quinn Madden (Mokena, Ill.) with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Leading all scorers on the stat sheet was Lasell senior Morgan Church (New London, N.H.), who canned 19 points to go along with nine rebounds and six assists. Junior Liz Bougie (Sanford, Maine) added seven points off the Laser bench, and sophomore Dana Ross (East Haven, Conn.) chipped in with six points and a game-high 12 rebounds, her ninth double-digit rebound performance of the season.

Lasell held Emerson scoreless through the first two minutes of the opening frame to take a 4-0 lead and held the two-point advantage (9-7) when Church put in both her free throws. After the home team squared the score at 9-all, the Lasers were able to reclaim a one-point lead (12-11) on a long range basket from junior Taylor Hughey (Redding, Calif.)

Hughey's triple was Lasell's final basket of the quarter as Emerson embarked on an 8-0 run through the final 1:46 to extend its lead to seven at 19-12. The Lasers tallied a mere four points in the second quarter as the Lions outscored the visitors 28-4 and ballooned its lead into the 30s.

Emerson outscored Lasell 45-35 through the second half, despite the Lasers outscoring the Lions 24-17 in the final frame, to cruise to the 90-51 win.

Lasell returns home for its Senior Day contest on Saturday, February 10, with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) meeting against Saint Joseph (Conn.) at 2:00 p.m. Emerson steps back into NEWMAC play on Saturday, February 10, facing Mount Holyoke at 1:00 p.m.
