Norwich upends Lasell Women’s Basketball

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College women's basketball team took another one on the chin Tuesday evening as Norwich University defeated the Lasers 59-41 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game at the Lasell Athletic Center.

Senior Shyann Josler (Thetford Center, Vt.) led all scorers with 26 points for the Cadets while grabbing 10 rebounds, and classmate Arianna Harrison (Vernon, Vt.) also recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

Senior Morgan Church (New London, N.H.) paced the home team with 14 points and nine rebounds, while classmate Brianna Hoffman (Milford, N.H.) also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points.

It was a one-point game late in the opening quarter before Josler made a basket with 16 seconds remaining to put the visitors up 12-9 after the first 10 minutes. Lasell was within five points (16-11) after a basket by junior Jaime Caron (Derry, N.H.) with six minutes to go in the second quarter before Norwich scored nine of the next 12 points over the next five minutes to go up by double digits (25-14). Church hit a three for Lasell with 10 seconds to go in the half to get the deficit under 10 points at the break, 27-18.

Norwich stretched its lead to open the third quarter, allowing Lasell just two points in the first six minutes and pulling away to a 17-point margin (37-10). The Lasers battled back with six straight points, two each from Church, sophomore Dana Ross (East Haven, Conn.) and Hoffman, but the Cadets answered with six of their own to make it 43-26 after three quarters. Norwich maintained its double-digit lead throughout the final quarter to post the victory.

The Cadets improve to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the GNAC, while the Lasers drop to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Lasell is home again on Saturday (Jan. 20) for a GNAC matchup against Simmons College (1:00 p.m.) The Cadets resume play on Thursday (Jan. 18), visiting Suffolk University for a 5 p.m. matchup.
