Centre shuts down Lasell Women’s Basketball

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Centre College women's basketball team shut down Lasell College Thursday afternoon, 53-29, in the final game of the Daytona Beach Shootout.

The Colonels (8-1) limited the Lasers (2-7) to a mere 17.6 percent shooting overall. Lasell's leading scorer, senior Morgan Church (New London, N.H.), managed just eight points, connecting on just 2-of-14 from the field. Junior Jaime Caron (Derry, N.H.) tallied six points and sophomore Dana Ross (East Haven, Conn.) collected a game-high nine rebounds.

The Lasers hit the game's first shot – a 3-pointer from Church – but went absolutely cold the rest of the opening quarter. Centre held Lasell without a field goal the rest of the period, taking a 13-4 advantage into the second.

Centre was outscored by a slight margin in the second (11-9), as the Lasers hung in the game by sinking a handful of free throws. The Colonels went into the half leading 22-15 despite their own sluggish effort on offense.

That turned around quickly in the third quarter, as Centre dropped 20 points while shooting 67 percent to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Kat Wilson (Suwanee, Ga.) was a perfect 4-for-4 and hit a pair of 3-pointers during the quarter, netting 10 of her team-high 16 points.

Centre coasted to its fifth consecutive victory in the fourth quarter, securing its eighth win to top last season's 7-19 overall record.

Junior Madison Rice (Knoxville, Tenn.) followed Wilson's 16 points with 10 of her own, shooting 5 of 6 while leading the team with eight rebounds.

Lasell returns to New England to visit Rhode Island College on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, for a non-conference match-up (5:30 p.m.)
