Monks Handle Women's Hoops in GNAC Action

STANDISH, Maine –The Lasell women's basketball fell to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College, 83-39, at the Harold Alfond Center on Thursday Night.

Lasell dips to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the GNAC, while St. Joe's remains undefeated in the conference at 10-0, and jumps to 16-3 this season.

Junior guard Morgan Church (New London, N.H.) paced the Lasers with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists as the lone Lasell player to score in double digits. Junior forward Madison Cota (Bellow Falls, Vt.) added eight points and four boards, while sophomore guard Becca Fenton (East Hartford, Conn.) chipped in with six points, three assists, and a pair of steals.

Five Monks hits double figures in scoring, led by sophomore guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) on 16 points with eight rebounds and six assists. Sophomore guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) contributed 16 points, while classmate Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) came off the bench to score 11 points with five rebounds and five assists.

The Monks came out firing, shooting 66.7% (10-15) from the field – including a scorching 6-7 effort from three-point range – in the first quarter en route to securing a 27-6 cushion after the first 10 minutes of play. The Lasers made just three of 12 attempts, with an 0-7 performance from downtown, in the opening frame.

After two quarters, Saint Joseph's held a 39-18 advantage and put the game away with a dominant third stanza, as the Monks outscored the Lasers by a 30-11 margin during the 10-minute window.

Both teams are back in action Saturday, as Lasell travels to Norwich University, while Saint Joseph's hosts Anna Maria College. Both GNAC contests are set to begin at 1:00 PM.
