Lasers Fall to Saint Joe's Connecticut at Home, 63-51
NEWTON, Mass. (1/14/17) - The Lasell women's basketball team fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe University of Saint Joseph's Conn., 63-51, on Saturday afternoon inside the Athletic Center. The Lasers fall to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in GNAC action, while the Blue Jays improve to 6-7 overall and earn their first conference win at 1-4.

It was a continuous back and forth battle to begin the contest, before Carlee Putnam's (Niantic, Conn.) shot made from behind the arc put the Blue Jays up 27-25. Lasell's defense, led by freshman Dana Ross (East Haven, Conn.) with four boards, kept the visitors' shooting at 30.8% in the first half, while the Lasers shot 42.3% in the stanza.

USJ came out strong in the second half with a 10-2 run before a Lasers' timeout to make the score 37-27 in favor of the visitors. The Lasers would go on a run of their own with four three-pointers, two of them coming from sophomore Taylor Hughey (Redding, Calif.) Hughey scored nine points overall off the bench, all of which came from three-point territory.

A 13-0 run to begin the fourth quarter kept the advantage on the visitors' side, of which Lasell would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

Junior Morgan Church (New London, N.H.) paced the Lasers with 15 points, while classmate Brianna Hoffman (Milford, N.H) finished with 13 points off the bench. Ross finished with a career-high 14 rebounds, contributing to the Lasers' 31 total, while the Blue Jays pulled down 39.

Putnam dominated the Blue Jays' offense finishing with 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Teammate Kayla Guest (Newington, Conn.) was also in double digits ending the day with 14 baskets and nine rebounds.

The Lasers travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC double-header matchup on Tuesday, January 17 with tip-off set for 5 p.m. USJ is back in action on Monday, January 16 at 1:00 p.m. when they take on the Mustangs of Mount Ida College.
