Saints Knock off Women's Basketball in GNAC Action

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lasell College women's basketball team suffered an 82-30 defeat to Emmanuel College on Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at the Andy Yosinoff Court. The Lasers fall to 5-7 on the season and 2-3 in GNAC action, while the Saints never trailed and improve to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC.

Emmanuel opened the game on a furious 21-0 run to put the contest away early. Lasell junior guard Morgan Church (New London, N.H.) got the visitors on the board around the four-minute marker in the first but it was one of just two field goals in the first quarter as Emmanuel led 21-4 after the first stanza.

EC held Lasell to single digits again in the second quarter, allowing just seven points to take a commanding 49-11 lead into halftime. Emmanuel senior guard Olivia Marks (Canterbury, Conn.) led all scorers at the break with 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting including 3-for-3 from behind the arc.

Church opened the second half scoring with a layup for the Lasers but over the next 11 minutes, Emmanuel rattled off an 18-3 run to make it a 67-16 game. Lasell played the Saints even over the final nine minutes of action but it was too little too late as Emmanuel coasted to the 82-30 GNAC win.

Lasell sophomore guard Taylor Hughey (Redding Calif.) paced the Lasers with a team-high 12 points, going 4-for-5 from downtown. Church was the next leading scorer with six points.

EC sophomore center Mary McCarthy (Scituate, Mass.) enjoyed a strong showing off the bench with 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Marks finished with 11 points while fellow senior Jen Chalk (Horseheads, N.Y.) added 10 points and two steals.

Both squads return to action on Saturday, January 14 at 1:00 PM as Lasell hosts the University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.), while the Saints welcome Anna Maria College.
