NEWTON, Mass. (11/19/16) – The Lasell women's basketball team limited Lyndon State to just two points in a non-conference overtime segment, as Morgan Church (New London, N.H.) and Liz Bougie (Sanford, Maine) connected on a final four points to lead the Lasers over the Hornets 64-58 on Saturday afternoon. The Lasers jump to 2-1 on the season, while the Hornets suffer their first loss at 1-1.

Church led the way for Lasell with her first performance in double figures on 22 points and 11 rebounds, all from the defensive side of play. Bougie followed right behind with a career-high 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds, also for her first double-double of the year. Junior Brianna Hoffman (Milford, N.H.) capped double-digit scoring for Lasell on 16 points in the victory.

For the Hornets, Gabrielle Foy (Wilton, Maine) joined Bougie with a game-high 22 points, while Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vermont) contributed 19. Hodge's 12 rebounds were good for her second double-double of the season, while Alyssa Mitchell (Milton, New Hampshire) pulled down a game-finest 15.

In a hot start for the home team, Lasell jump to an early 12-4 lead in the first quarter with Church and Hoffman splitting four points apiece in the stretch. The Hornets used 16 points in the second quarter to trail Lasell by just seven points as both teams headed into the locker room for halftime, 27-20.

Foy exploded for 16 points in the second half for Lyndon State, converting on all three freebies along with 10 points from the field and three from downtown. A 12-0 run for the visitors ignited a late-game comeback as a three-pointer from Faith Richard (Acushnet, Massachusetts) gave Lyndon State its first lead of the game, 49-48. A three-pointer from Hoffman would regain the hosts lead, 54-51, but foul trouble plagued Lasell during the final seconds of regulation as Foy converted on three final free throws to send both teams into OT.

Lasell took charge from start to finish in the last five minutes of the contest, restraining Lyndon State to just two points on a layup from Hodge. The Lasers finished the contest on 39.1% shooting from the field, while Lyndon State finished at 27.0%. Both teams were dead even on rebounds at 50 apiece with Lyndon State earning a 12-6 advantage in second half points.

The Lasers will play a final road contest before Thanksgiving break on Tuesday, November 22 at Framingham State at 6:00 p.m., while the Hornets return to play on November 19 at Rhode Island College. Tip-off for Lyndon State is set for 6:00 p.m.
