Women's Basketball Falls 76-57 in the GNAC Quarterfinals

PROVIDENCE, RI. (2/23/16) – The Lasell College women's basketball team saw their season come to an end with a 76-57 loss to the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales on Tuesday evening. The Lasers finish the year at 12-14, while the Wildcats improve to 24-2 overall.

Katie Stopera paced the Lasers with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Brianna Hoffman added 15 points and five boards. Deanna Barrett tallied 10 points for Lasell, while Sherlyn Small chipped in six points, seven assists and eight rebounds.

Ashley Thompson led the way for JWU with 22 points and eight rebounds, Savannah Kresge came off the bench to hit six three pointers and Bobbie Whitehead netted 13 points to go with her game-high 18 rebounds in the victory.

The Lasers led 11-10 midway through the opening quarter following the second Hoffman three pointer of the contest before JWU closed the first 10 minutes on a 16-4 run to take a 26-15 lead into the break. Lasell remained in striking distance at 38-27 at halftime, behind some solid defending that limited JWU to 12 points in the quarter.

A pair of Hoffman three pointers and last second 30 foot triple from Stopera helped Lasell trim the Wildcats lead to 46-42 at the end of the third quarter, but four Kresge three pointers in the fourth period sparked a 30 point fourth quarter outburst that sent JWU through to the semifinals with a 76-57 victory.
