Women's Basketball Opens 2015 Campaign with 1-1 Outing at Brandeis Tournament

 

WALTHAM, Mass. (11/15/16) - The Lasell College women's basketball team went 1-1 in the 17th annual Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament this past weekend in the Auerbach Arena. The Lasers fell to Eastern Nazarene 56-47 before cruising over Mount Holyoke 81-46.

After a tight first half that was tied at 24-24, Eastern Nazarene outshot Lasell, 41 percent to 32 percent in the second, en route to a 32-13 advantage.
The Lions were even better from 3-point range, hitting 4-of-6 while the Lasers connected on just 1-of-10.
ENC had three players score in double digits, led by Jessica Franco with 14 points off the bench. BreAnna Fraser added 10, as did Nicole Greer. Greer scored eight of her 10 in the second half.
Lasell's Katie Stopera (Hollis, N.H.) scored a game-high 17 points, but was just 1-of-3 from the floor for three points in the second half.
ENC also had a 46-31 edge on the glass, with Elia Salazar leading all players with seven boards and three other Lions grabbing six each, including Franco and Greer. Stopera had six for Lasell, but no other player had more than four.

Lasell vs. Mount Holyoke (Consolation Round)

 

Lasell never trailed against Mount Holyoke en route to an 81-46 victory. The Lasers bested the Lyons in all spots of shooting with 42.9% from the field, 29.6% from downtown and 86.7% from the charity stripe.
Lasell shifts to 1-1 in the 2015's season beginning, while Mount Holyoke drops to 0-2.

STAT LEADERS

FOR THE LASERS:
Stopera sunk her 1,000th career point after having scored 175 points during her first-year at Southern Connecticut. Stopera finished the night with a game-high 30 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Stopera went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line, added 12 points from long-range (4-for-7) and went 11-for-21 from the field. 
Deanna Barrett (Berlin, Conn.) contributed with 13 points and six assists, while snagging a team-best eight boards defensively.
Jaime Caron (Derry, N.H.) came off the bench to score 10 points with 7 total rebounds.


FOR THE LYONS:
Green etched her first double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Siyao Sul went a perfect 7-for-7 in shooting position and gave the Lyons 13 points and seven boards.
The Lyons held a slim 46-41 advantage on the glass, highlighted by Green's 12.

Mount Holyoke hosts Worcester State on Wednesday November 18 at 5:00 p.m. in their home-court opener.
