Falcons Soar Over Lasers 81-59 in Women's Basketball

New Haven, Conn. (1/17/15) - Freshman forward Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) led the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team to a 81-59 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory over the Lasell College Lasers Saturday afternoon. Laser drops to 5-9 overall (1-1 GNAC), while the Falcons improve to 6-9 (1-3 GNAC).

Junior guard Katie Stopera (Hollis, N.H.) led the Lasers with 16 points, while freshman forward Breanna Cashman (Norwich, N.Y.) added 11 points. 

 
The Falcons set the tone in the opening stanza, pushing to an early 20-5 lead. Albertus shot 57.1% in the first half, led by 11 points from freshman guard Kiarra Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) and 10 points from Bolden. 

 
The second half was dominated by the Falcons once again as Albertus shot 46.3% from the floor despite going 0-10 from three-point land. Lasell hit 13 field goals in the second half, five coming from behind the arc. Junior guard Rebeka Costa (Methuen, Mass.) came off the pine to hit 3 three-pointers in the second half to contribue to Lasell's scoring.

 
Bolden shot 10-17 from the field and 6-8 from the charity stripe in 30 minutes of work. Epps finished with a career-high 19 points on 8-15 shooting, as she added three assists and seven rebounds. Junior forward Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) recorded her seventh double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 boards. 

 
The Falcons finished the game shooting 50.7% from the floor as they scored 60 points in the paint compared to the Lasers' 18. The visitors also tallied 25 second-chance points. Their largest lead of the contest came in the second half when they led by 34 points with 4:40 left in regulation. 

 
Both teams return to GNAC action for their next contest. Albertus will host the Sharks of Simmons College on Monday, January 19th at 1:00 p.m., while the Lasers head to St. Joseph's (Conn.) on Tuesday, January 20th for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
