AMCats Stop Lasell in Women's Hoops

Paxton, Mass. (2/15/14) – The Lasell College women's basketball team fell 85-58 on Saturday afternoon at Anna Maria in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The loss drops Lasell to 11-12 on the season and 4-5 in GNAC contests, while the AMCats improve to 11-12 and 4-5 in league matchups as well.

Sophomore Katie Stopera (Hollis, N.H.) scored a team-high 19 points for Lasell on 5-13 shooting from the floor including 5-10 from three point land and 4-4 from the free throw line. Junior forward Danielle Autencio (Montville, Conn.) notched a double-double for the Lasers with 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Lasers.

Trafficia Warburton compiled a complete game for the AMCats, scoring 22 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, dishing out five assists and tallying four steals. Katie Pryor added 22 points for Anna Maria who also saw Taylor Walker and Christina Gauvin also post double digits with 15 and 13 points respectively.

Lasell opened with a quick 6-0 lead behind three pointers from Stopera and Molly Lauver (Cambridge, N.Y.) but Anna Maria quickly closed the gap, tying the game at 6-6 on a free throw from Walker. A three point play from Autencio and a layup by Alexis Chappell (Springfield, Mass.) gave the Lasers a 15-12 lead with just under 13 minutes left in the opening half. Consecutive baskets by Brandi Pastenack put the AMCats back on top 16-15 and the hosts never trailed again.

Anna Maria broke the game open in the waning moments of the first half, turning a 33-26 lead into a 44-28 advantage at the intermission behind an 11-1 run in the final two and a half minutes. AMC began the second half by scoring nine of the first 13 points to open up a 21 point lead and cruised the rest of the way to earn the 86-58 victory.

Lasell will host Norwich on Tuesday November 18th before closing the regular season by welcoming St. Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday November 22nd.
