Women's Hoops Stymied by New England College

WENHAM, Mass. (11/16/13/0 - The Lasell College women's basketball team dropped their second straight game to open the season, falling 80-50 against New England College in the Gordon College Tip-off Tournament. The Lasers slipped to 0-2 on the season while the Pilgrims climbed to 1-1 overall.

Katie Stopera (Hollis, N.H.) paced the Lasers with 14 points on 6-12 shooting adding four steals, while Alexis Chappell (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds in the loss. 

Taylor Burgess and Kayla Lawlor led the way for NEC with 22 and 17 points respectively, as the Pilgrims shot 11-28 from downtown and out-rebounded the Lasers 53-29 enroute to the victory.

New England College used a 13-2 run to break open a 12-10 game midway through the first half and take a 25-14 lead, then held Lasell scoreless over the final five minutes of the first half to build a 42-14 edge at the half. The Pillgrims grabbed 17 offensive rebounds in the opening 20 minutes of play and held Lasell to 21% shooting from the floor to buld their cushion.

Lasell shot 15-31 over the final 20 minutes of play and limited NEC to eight offensive rebounds in the second half but were unable to make a dent in the Pilgrims lead, falling 80-50.

Lasell will travel to Nashua, N.H. on Tuesday November 19th for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against Daniel Webster College.
