Women's Basketball Sunk at Emmanuel

Boston, Mass. (01/26/2013) - The Lasell College women's basketball team fell at Emmanuel College, 76-49 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Lasers to 8-10 on the year and 3-4 in the league, while Emmanuel remained undefeated in conference play at 6-0 climbed to 14-5 on the season. 

Alexis Chappell (Sprngfield, Mass.) led Lasell with 12 points and seven rebounds, and Ginelle Cola (Lowell, Mass.) joined her in double figures, tallying 11 points.

Bria Tiro (Saugus, Mass.) scored a game-high 16 points for the Saints, and Fiona O'Dwyer (Stamford, Conn.) posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Emmanuel opened up an early 10-4 lead behind back-to-back three pointers from Jasmine Burwell and O'Dwyer, but the Lasers pushed back with a 9-2 run fueled by seven straight points by Chapell to take a 13-12 lead.

Lasell took a 22-16 lead on a pair of Kayla Vincellete (Westport, Mass.) free throws with 5:34 remaining in the half. The Saints defensive pressure sparked a 19-3 run to close the half, and take a 35-25 lead into the intermisson.

The two teams traded baskets through the opening ten minutes of the second half, with Emmauel stretching their lead to as many as 14 only two watch Lasell narrow the margin to seven. A free throw by Cola sliced the visitors deficit to 48-41 with 10:30 to go, but the Lasers were unable to close the gap further the rest of the way as the Saints pulled away for the 76-49 final.

Lasell will return to action on Wednesday Jan. 30th when they host Emerson in a conference contest.
