Westfield State Out-Runs Lasell, 90-70 in Women's Basketball

Westfield, Mass. (12/06/12) - The Lasell College women's basketball team saw it's best shooting night of the season wasted as they were outscored by Westfield State 90-70 in Thursday night's non-conference road game. The loss dropped Lasell to 3-5 on the year, while Westfield upped their record to 4-3 on the season with the victroy.

Sophomore Justine Ryan (Norwood, Mass.) scored a season-high 16 points for Lasell, who got 15 points from freshmen Molly Lauver (Cambridge, N.Y.) and 10 from Danielle Autencio (Montville, Conn.). Freshmen Sammy Long (staten Island, N.Y.) had a career high nine points for the Lasers, and senior Kim Archibald (Lewiston, Maine) scored eight points and grabbed a game-high nine boards.

Keri Doldoorian (Whitinsville, Mass.) finished with a team-high 14 points for the Owls, and was joined in double figures by Jen Ashton (Beverly, Mass.) and Molly Waitt (Melrose, Mass.) who each tallied 13 points and Gabby Felix (Springfield, Mass.) who netted 10.

Trailing 8-2 in the early going, Lasell surged to a 13-10 lead with 13:11 to play in the opening half using a trio of three points baskets from Lauer, Ryan and Long. Westfiel;d responded with a 14-1 run over a four and a half minute stretch to take a 24-14 lead with 8:25 to play in the opening half. The hosts would stretch their lead to 44-26 at the half using 11 offensive rebounds to help them shoot 43.2% from the field.

Lasell shot 42.9% from the floor in the second half, and were outstanding from the free throw line shooting 18-21 over the final 20 minutes, but were unable to get enough stops defensively to threaten down the stretch.

Lasell will be back in action on Tuesday December 11th, when they will host Gordon College at 7 p.m in their final game of the fall semester.
