Women Fall to Suffolk 63-50 in Boston

Boston, MA-The Lasers fell to Suffolk University 63-50 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Monday in Boston.  The loss drops the Lasers to 1-14 overall and 1-4 in GNAC play. Suffolk improves to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference. 

The Rams opened the game with a three pointer by Junior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) at the 18:28 mark and held onto a slight lead for most of the first half.  The Lasers kept it close throughout the half, tying the game at 17 with just under four minutes left in the half.  Suffolk was able to close out the half on a 6-2 run to take a five-point lead, 24-19 into the break.  Alexis Chappell (Springfield, MA) led the Lasers in the first half with seven points.

Suffolk opened up the second half with a 19-6 run that gave them an 18 point lead with 11:55 remaining.   The Lasers battled back over the next eight minutes and cut the lead to 51-43, after two Chappell free throws at the 4:14 mark.  The Rams then connected on two three pointers and four free throws, over the remaining four minutes, to secure the win. Vienneau and Meghan Black (Roslindale, MA) combined for 27 of Suffolk's 39 second half points to propel them to victory.

Chappell led the Lasers with 14 points and eight rebounds despite being in foul trouble for most of the contest. Freshman Justine Ryan (Norwood, MA) also scored 10 points for the Lasers.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action this upcoming Wednesday evening. Suffolk will travel to Simmons College to take on the Sharks at 7:00pm.  Lasell travel to Mount Ida College to take on the Mustangs at 6:00pm.
