Lasers drop GNAC Matchup to Lions 53-47

Boston, MA - The Lasell women's basketball team was defeated by Emerson College 53-47, in a GNAC conference matchup Thursday night at Emerson College.  With the loss Lasell falls to 0-13 (0-3 GNAC).

Shannon Norton (Middletown, NJ) led the way for the Lions with a game high 13 points.  She also chipped in 3 rebounds and 5 assists.  Kristen Brice (Indiana, PA) scored 11 points and had 8 rebounds on the night.  Freshman Alexis Chappell (Springfield, MA) and Junior Kim Archibald (Lewiston, ME) were the scoring leader for the Lasers putting up a team high 10 points.  Archibald also had a team high in rebounds with 8, while Chappell chipped in with 7 of her own.

The Lions came out firing in first half jumping out to the early 9-0 lead at the 17:48 mark, and led by as many as 11 early in the first half.  But the Lasers clawed back into the game and cut into the Lions lead.  When Kayla Vincelette (Westport, MA) hit a free throw at the 4:43 mark, the Lasers trailed 21-18.  The Lions went into the break with a 26-20 lead.

The Lasers traded buckets with Emerson for much of the second half.  They were able to battle back and when Chappell hit a layup at the 4:53 mark, they had tied the game 42-42. But the Lasers were never able to take the lead and Emerson hit their free throws at the end of the game to win. 

Emerson shot 37.8% from the floor while the Lasers were 38.3% shooting.  The Lasers did hold a slight edge in rebounds with 31 to the Lions 30.

With the win the Lions improve to 4-10 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. Their next game is at home against GNAC opponent Pine Manor College Monday at 12:00 p.m.

With the loss Lasell falls to 0-13 overall and 0-3 in the GNAC. The Lasers will host Pine Manor College on Saturday at 1pm.
